GREAT BARRINGTON — A national chain that sells everything from horseshoes to chicken feed to beekeeping supplies is coming to Barrington Plaza on Stockbridge Road early next year.

Tractor Supply Co. will open next door to the new Marshall’s, likely in mid- to late February, depending on town permitting and construction timelines, according to Jeff Stiles, current manager of the Pittsfield store, who will also manage the Great Barrington store.

The company’s website calls Tractor Supply Co. a “rural lifestyle supply store” that sells “everything except tractors.” The store specializes in farm products, but also sells household items, garden tools, chainsaws, apparel and tractor parts, which it had begun doing in 1938 as a mail-order business.

Great Barrington — A tenant for what remains of the old Kmart in Barrington Plaza has been found.

At its meeting last night, the planning board gave the go-ahead for Tractor Supply to open a new 28,000-square-foot store in the plaza. The board unanimously recommended that the company be allowed to modify the terms of a special permit under which the property was already operating.

The opening of the new Tractor Supply store will no doubt come as a relief to the plaza’s new landlord, Paragon Realty Group, and customers of Kmart, which closed in December 2016 after troubled parent company Sears Holdings announced that it was shuttering 64 Kmart stores including the Great Barrington store, throwing between 50 and 99 employees out of work locally.

Tractor Supply Co., a national retailer of products for homes, farms and animal owners, is coming to Long Island.

The popular Brentwood, Tenn.-based chain is building its first Long Island store on 3.97 acres on Route 112 and Commercial Boulevard in Medford. Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2018 and the 19,000-square-foot store is slated to open by the end of the summer.

Tractor Supply also plans to open a second Long Island store in Calverton, for which the developer is currently seeking approvals from the Town of Riverhead.

The Medford site was purchased for $1.6 million. Wethersfield, Conn.-based New England Retail Properties is developing the property for Tractor Supply. The developer/broker has a 3,600-square-foot retail space next to the Tractor Supply store it is currently marketing for lease.
