MANCHESTER, CT — Relocating to 199 Spencer Street gave a Manchester Subway franchise a chance to show off the “fresh” new-look decor the chain is now featuring. The shop was previously located at 215 Spencer Street. Matt Halprin, senior vice president of New England Retail Properties, announced the new lease agreement Wednesday.

The Subway relocated from a 20-year-old building in Manchester to the new location and is the first “Fresh Forward” location in the area. Franchisees Tara and Milton Jackson are now showing off a new logo on the outside of the restaurant, new flooring, wall coverings, wall art, and lighting on the inside. The Fresh Forward theme also embraces digital technology like digital menu boards and a remote order pick-up area.  Link to Article

Southington, CT — In a special meeting Wednesday afternoon, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a Wendy’s restaurant on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

The short meeting was held to avoid delays with the restaurant’s construction, according to commission Chairman Michael DelSanto. At its meeting last week, the commission delayed a decision on the Wendy’s application after one member raised concerns about the building’s placement on the property.

It is planned for the east side of the AMC movie theater entrance at 1799 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike

Vice Chairman Paul Chaplinsky wanted the restaurant built farther back from the road to match surrounding buildings. David Sacco, an engineer with TPA Design Group of New Haven, said the Wendy’s owners didn’t want to push the building back because they wanted it easily visible to drivers on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

On Wednesday, DelSanto said [...]

Zachary F. Vasile, Journal Inquirer

The Plaza Azteca Mexican restaurant chain is moving its Manchester location from a standalone building on Slater Street to former Bertucci’s spot on the north side of the Buckland Hills mall.

The Virginia-based restaurant group announced Wednesday that, due to the high cost of lease renewal and the need for renovations at the Slater Road address, management had no choice but to look for other options and found a willing partner in the Shoppes at Buckland Hills, about a half-mile down the Buckland Hills Drive commercial corridor.

Company officials said they’ve agreed to lease a space at 194 Buckland Hills Drive, Suite 1052, the former Bertucci’s location.

Plaza Azteca, which has occupied a corner lot opposite the Manchester Best Buy since 2009, thanked the town for its support over the last 10 years and said it remains committed to serving its “family” of customers [...]

The current Dunkin’ Donuts to the west would be closed and the new Dunkin’ at 1825 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike would replace it, Cassidy said. The current franchisee could not be reached for comment.

The beverage and baked goods chain has been rebranding since early in 2018, including its decision to drop Donuts from its name. In February, Dunkin’ opened its first NextGen restaurant in Quincy, Mass. and according to company filings, the chain expects 1,000 NextGen restaurants per year. “The launch of our next generation concept store marks one of the most important moments in Dunkin’ Donuts’ growth as an on-the-go, beverage-led brand,” said Dave Hoffmann, president of Dunkin’ Donuts U.S. and Canada.

The one-story building would have a footprint of 2,016 square feet and shared access to the movie theater’s driveway and sidewalk. The developers are [...]
