A new market specializing in South Asian cuisine is slated to come to Bristol inside the former EbLen’s clothing store on Farmington Avenue, according to the city.

The owners of Desi Spice LLC filed a building permit application on May 10, according to the city’s Building Department. The application would allow the new owners to conduct renovation work, including building out a kitchen and shelving space.

The applicants, listed as Mahesh Sanakkayala of South Windsor and Pradeep Ravella of Vernon, are also the planned owners of the market. Mahesh also owns Spice Town Indian Grocery in Vernon.

Though Asian American Pacific Islanders make up less than 6% of the state population, the group represents one of the fastest growing communities in the state, according to data from the 2020 Census.

LaserMaxx which is moving into 3005 Berlin Turnpike – the former site of LaserQuest – which shuttered up in August 2020.

LaserMaxx, a Dutch company, has 360 worldwide locations. Newington will be the sixth location in North America and the fourth in the United States. The other three are in San Carlos and San Jose, California as well as one Spokane, Washington. There are also Canadian locations in the provinces of Ontario and Ottawa.

Pittsfield, MA Matt Halprin of New England Retail Properties, Inc. represented Philips International in leasing the former Big Lots space located at Allendale Shopping Center to Goodwill Retail Store & Donation Center. Goodwill moved from their previous location on Dalton Ave. next to Jo-Ann Fabrics.

The new retail space consists of 9,500 s/f which is much larger than Goodwill’s previous location of only 2,000 s/f. There is also an additional 9,500 s/f for processing donations, and 4,000 s/f of space in the basement. This gives the retail store and donation center a total of 23,000 s/f.
